Yawn

๐Ÿ‘‹ Hello- Iโ€™m Jonelle and I slept in today.

This probably sounds a little silly. Maybe even a little pointless but friends... I have been programmed to feel like โ€œsleeping inโ€ has a negative label slapped ๐‘…๐’พ๐‘”๐’ฝ๐“‰ on it.

I also am still struggling with having a day off during the week, even though I work all weekend. I feel like Iโ€™m slacking, should be working or should be doing ๐’ฎ๐‘œ๐“‚๐‘’๐“‰๐’ฝ๐’พ๐“ƒ๐‘”!

Society tells us who to be and itโ€™s frustrating as hell. Here is what has been imprinted on ๐‘€๐‘’ personally that I still struggle to fight through-

โ€œIf I donโ€™t work Monday through Friday then Iโ€™m slackingโ€

โ€œEveryone else is awake and getting things done. Sleeping in means I am just being lazyโ€

โ€œNapping, especially Monday-Friday, means Iโ€™m reallllly lazy and probably coming down with somethingโ€

I come by it naturally. My sweet Memere who is 87 and sick in the nursing home ๐’ฎ๐“‰๐’พ๐“๐“ says โ€œoh I was just closing my eyes not sleepingโ€ when I walk in and she has drifted off, resting and healing her body.

What I forget, often, is that I work all different days of the week, all different hours of the day and yaโ€™ll we need rest. We are all exhausted! When did taking care of ourselves start feeling like someone is raising an eyebrow at us and whispering to their friends?

So letโ€™s stop the lies that we are telling ourselves. Whatever it is that you do that comes with that negative label is ok. That label is lying to you.

What are ๐’ด๐‘œ๐“Š doing that is totally ok but society somehow makes you feel bad about it? Weigh in...Iโ€™m curious and I think we can help each other break the stigma.

Answer me when you wake up because I sincerely hope you are still sleeping, guilt free!
