Good Morning beautiful friends
I want to tell you a story.
Once upon a time there was a girl who wanted 𝐻𝒰𝒢𝐸 things and she was so motivated that she forgot to prepare & ended up missing 𝒶 𝒸𝑜𝓊𝓅𝓁𝑒 𝑜𝒻 𝒽𝓊𝑔𝑒𝑜𝓅𝓅𝑜𝓇𝓉𝓊𝓃𝒾𝓉𝒾𝑒𝓈. It’s me. I’m that that girl.
When I was 22 I was so motivated in all of the ways and after months of looking finally found Willie Nelson’s manager to whom I sent an email asking if they accepted unsolicited material (many times in the music biz you have to be represented by someone like an entertainment lawyer or management for a label to even consider allowing you to send them any kind of demo) the manager himself replied and said “not usually but go ahead and send it... “ 𝔸ℕ𝔻 𝕀 ℕ𝔼𝕍𝔼ℝ 𝔻𝕀𝔻. Not because I wasn’t motivated...it was because I wasn’t ready. I hadn’t laid the groundwork yet and I didn’t have a demo worthy of sending yet. I jumped the gun because I got excited and I missed out.
There was a time not so long ago that I reached out to a former member of The Eagles. Yes you heard me right
This is the convo
“Hi Don, I know this is a complete shot in the dark but i still had to try:)
I am a singer/songwriter and my husband and I are just starting our newest album. I am just simply looking for a chance to have someone listen to a few songs. I have to take chances and you just happened to be one of them:)
To my absolutely shock Don Felder messaged me right back with this -
Shots in the dark always hit something eventually. I'd love to hear some of your songs. Where and how do I do that?
But I didn’t have anything to send him yet. Nothing that was ready enough anyway and that opportunity slipped right through my hands.
I’ve learned over the years that being ready and laying that groundwork is the absolute most necessary step to becoming successful. You wouldn’t sign up for a marathon and not train, right? Same thing. You can’t jump right into the glory without the guts.
Unfortunately, I learned the hard way that you must be ready for opportunity at all times and since
nothing feels like it’s moving forward right now with the state of the world, this would be a good time to do the dirty work. Planning, practicing , training , learning , goal setting, vision mapping...all of these things will prepare you for the finish line. Some of the steps are going to suck and feel mundane- do them anyway. Some will feel impossible-they are most definitely not. Your reward will come!
Have a great weekend!
